Lowell sought this employer-sponsored 1-yr program with instruction and real-work systems engineering project. Through the course of the program, he had the opportunity to tour Caltech's Jet Propulsion Lab and meet and learn from NASA's Mars Rover teams
Lowell took an opportunity in the summer of 2010 to participate in a 2-month study abroad program focused on engineering topics. He learned some German, met some lifelong friends, and traveled Europe on the weekends learning about European history and culture. Little did he know, but the Hochschule Mannheim was right next-door to John Deere Mannheim, the company he would work for after college, and he would be back in that area many times for work.
